The Recorded History of Casino Craps

The recorded history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game referred to as Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Eightteen Thirteen. Hazard is believed to be a descendant of Azzahr, meaning 'the die' a game played by Arabs.

The game developed as it traveled from the Arab territories to Europe and then to the UK. By the early eighteenth century, formal established rules for Hazard had been established. France adopted the English version of Hazard and is believed to have been imported to the us by early French colonizers. In the mid-1700s, when the British beat the French in Canada, the French settlers moved to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, clubs and wharfs and a simplified 'US' style of Craps was developed. The game moved west and is a favoured game that is participated in all over the U.S. and all over the planet.

The name 'Craps' is believed to be a French pronunciation of the word crabs, which means a pair of '1s'. There are two general types of Craps that are played-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, correctly named seeing as it is gambled on the streets is where a hurler makes a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The betting is made either for or against the shooter and another player has to cover the wager for the game to continue.

In casino Craps, which is the accepted game, wagered on in casinos, the betting house banks the casino game. The players bet with the house-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps once was a very popular casino game but in the past 20 years had split itself and other games, like poker and twenty-one became even more popular. However, Craps is observing a surge in fame once again in online casinos and in brink and mortar casinos.
